* Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s CEO jokingly teased GTA 7 at the recent TD Cowen 52nd Annual Technology, Media & Telecom Conference.
* Zelnick also talked about GTA Online and GTA V, while also addressing questions related to the sixth instalment.
Grand Theft Auto VI is still under the wraps, with a release scheduled in 2025. Amidst all talks around GTA 6’s next trailer, Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, has teased a sequel to the next Grand Theft Auto title. For the uninitiated, Zelnick was at the TD Cowen 52nd Annual Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, when he mentioned GTA 7.
The Take-Two CEO was responding to a question related to a question related to the increasing gap between the release of major iterations of the franchise, when he jokingly threw in the mention of ‘GTA 7.’ Although neither host nor Zelnick stick to the topic of Grand Theft Auto 7, the latter replied to the question around 12-year gap between 5th and 6th iterations, as he spoke,
“It is important to bear in mind that it’s not like Rockstar put out GTA V and sat on their hands for 12 years, right? We launched GTA Online and that’s turned into a massive, living, breathing ecosystem which continues to perform and grow to this day. So, the label totally transformed from a label that made big, standalone, monolithic, games.. and not just one, number of them… to a label that’s now in the live services business.”
He continued by referring to Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto (& Red Dead) Online content, which Rockstar has worked on during the 12-year gap between GTA V and VI:
“I do think given the scale of that label, it’s a huge company itself, there isn’t much more to be done. This isn’t a situation where it is 12 years of girth of product, there’s 12 years where Rockstar has been putting out a mass amount of content. And another little title called Red Dead.”
During the conversation also acknowledged the success of Grand Theft Auto 5 and its Online counterpart. At the same time, he was also asked about Grand Theft Auto VI’s PC release, which he neither denied nor confirmed.
Has GTA 7 Been Confirmed?
As mentioned above, Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, only referenced Grand Theft Auto 7 as a humorous remark. He neither confirmed nor denied the launch of a sequel to Grand Theft Auto VI, which might be in the pipeline along with Rockstar Games’ other ideas around the future projects. Currently, the New York-based gaming studio is focused on releasing GTA 6, which is scheduled to launch in 2025.
GTA 6 To Launch In Fall 2025
In May 2024, Take-Two, with its 4Q24 earnings release, confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will be launching in Fall of 2025. It will skip the PC launch and will be available on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. A one-minute and 31-second-long trailer was launched in December 2023, unveiling franchise’ first-ever female lead, and fans can expect more teasers and announcements later this year.
