The Elusive Samurai Chapter 171 Recap
The latest installment begins with Tokiyuki worrying about the task given to him by the Emperor. He is scared since failure to make a dish that the Emperor likes will result in death. However, Lord Akiie’s father Lord Chikafusa helps him gain some perspective about the ruler. This inspires the young protagonist to make a Sea Bass Namasu with Watershield Soup. He explains the history behind the dish to the Emperor, which pleases him. Emperor Go-Daigo forgives the Tokiyuki and grants him permission to lead his elite army however he pleases.
He tells Tokiyuki to leave the fighting to the large armies and to focus on killing the enemy generals instead. Tokiyuki tells the Emperor that he understands why Akiie loved him so much. However, Go-Daigo starts to cough up blood and it’s revealed that the old ruler does not have much time left. The manga then reveals that Emperor Go-Daigo passed away one year after the events of this chapter. The issue ends with Nitta Yoshisada emerging as the new hero.

With the way the last chapter ended, fans can expect to see more of Yoshisada in the next update of the manga. Since Tokiyuki can lead his army however he wants, we can hope to see them target the enemy leaders one by one and take them out of the equation. As new characters emerge, fans will likely see the war moving in Tokiyuki’s favor. Moreover, we might learn what Takauji is planning now that the Emperor is dead.
