Evil Empire, the developers of Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania, have partnered with Ubisoft to bring The Rogue Prince of Persia to PC. It will be the company’s first title that belongs to the 2D roguelike genre. Although it has no connection to Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, the fast-paced combat style and environmental designs of Rogue Prince are inspired by the classic Prince of Persia games.
The Rogue Prince of Persia Early Access Release Date Was Delayed “To Give People Time To Play Hades 2”
The Rogue Prince of Persia Early Access is slated for May 27, 2024. It will be released for Windows, initially on Steam, and interested gamers can wishlist it on the platform. Evil Empire has officially revealed on its social media channels like YouTube, Discord, and Twitter that the game will cost $ 19.99/€ 19.99.
The Rogue Prince of Persia was set to be released on May 14. In a blog post on Steam, dated May 10, the developers disclosed their decision to delay the game’s launch and publicly mentioned the reason to be the Stealth Launch of Hades 2. They even acknowledged the popularity of the title by Supergiant Games on X. This enthusiastic gesture for a rival roguelike game got positive responses from fans who were a bit disappointed after the news of the delay.
Another interesting statement in the post was that Evil Empire was thinking of giving a “cheeky little launch discount” for The Rogue Prince of Persia Early Access. Currently, the devs have been busy polishing the game and investing more time in bug fixes and improving gameplay performance.
The Rogue Prince of Persia Story & Features
The Rogue Prince of Persia will have 2D fighting action similar to most low-budget roguelike games. If you are unfamiliar with the roguelike genre, these are games that feature randomly generated maps or levels, permanent death that makes the player start from the beginning, and fantasy narrative. Roguelike games also feature stylized anime characters in a detailed environment.
What sets apart The Rogue Prince of Persia from other roguelikes like Hades 2 is its side-scrolling action. It is not a dungeon crawler, where players have to navigate through labyrinths. Instead, they will have to move in one direction, avoiding traps, punching enemies, or skewering them with a spear. Death will make the player return to square one where he will be greeted by Sukhra with a warm ‘Hey. Finally up!’
The main character in the upcoming roguelike will battle Huns who have invaded the village and laid waste to everyone and everything with dark magic. The prince will have multiple options for weapons to defeat the Huns including daggers, a royal saber, and an axe, each having attack patterns, special moves, and randomized buffs, similar to Hades 2 weapons.
