My Hero Academia Season 7 of the anime just showed us the incredible growth of Hitoshi Shinso- the guy who’s always wanted to be a hero despite having a quirk better suited for a villain- Brainwashing. In this article, we’ll explore and discuss the significance of Shinso in My Hero Academia.
The Importance Of Shinso In My Hero Academia
Hitoshi Shinso was a student of Class 1-C which falls in the Department of General Education. Despite his choice of course and class, just like any other student, he’s always wanted to be a hero and he’s looked up to his own favorite heroes since he was a child.
His quirk Brainwashing led to him being discriminated against because it was “a quirk better suited for villains” and there was nothing heroic about it. His childhood and upbringing highlight a nuanced issue in the current Hero-centric society of MHA where those with strange quirks are looked down upon.
These might be strange in terms of their function and effects like that of Shinso’s or those that change the body’s appearance permanently like Spinner’s quirk. These people are often victims of abuse, neglect, discrimination, and so on- turning most of them to the path of villainy. Shinso however still strives to be a hero and it shows.
Shinso’s Quirk Explained
Since his predicament stems from his “villainous” quirk, what is it exactly and what does it do? Aizawa, one of the Pro Heroes in My Hero Academia, also uses a broken quirk like Shinso which is proof enough that he can belong in the Hero society and become a Pro Hero himself.
The Brainwashing Quirk of Hitoshi Shinso allows him to control people who verbally respond to him. It requires intentional activation and won’t work if he doesn’t want it to. Initially, his power was limited, and he couldn’t make victims perform complex tasks like speaking or recalling information.
However, after extensive training, Shinso enhanced his Quirk to make controlled individuals speak, aiding in a trap for AFO in MHA Season 7 Episode 6. Shinso couldn’t change his own voice to speak to AFO because it doesn’t work through devices like phones, as they convert his voice into an electronic signal.
