Best Anime Series Like Jujutsu Kaisen
It’s difficult to combine the supernatural and martial arts in a way that it doesn’t become cliche. Most of them tend towards the horror, supernatural or martial arts aspect of it and they don’t exactly fit the bill of what a battle shonen anime combining those genres in a balance should be. Thus we have only found, that we can confidently say, 5 anime series like Jujutsu Kaisen.
Yu Yu Hakusho
Togashi’s Yu Yu Hakusho is the only one in the 90s era of anime that could match the vibe of JJK. Since it also deals with the evil supernatural elements and revolves around our exorcist heroes, it’s deemed as a classic equivalent anime series like Jujutsu Kaisen. Just like JJK it also deals with themes of death and the spiritual and the supernatural.
Shaman King
Hiroyuki Takei’s Shaman King is an anime series like Jujutsu Kaisen because it also delves into the supernatural and deals with spirits and spiritual energy as the crux of its power system. However, the biggest similarity between both the series is that both Sukuna (the baddie daddy of JJK) and Asakura Hao (the big bad of Shaman King) hail from the Heian Era in Japan. And both of them are the epitome of insurmountable evil.
Bleach
Tite Kubo’s Bleach from the Big 3 of Shonen can be attributed as the biggest inspiration behind Jujutsu Kaisen- thus being one of the best anime series like Jujutsu Kaisen. The themes of JJK overlap with Bleach in terms of negative emotions, death, supernatural and so on. The Hollows and Cursed Spirits- both can’t be seen by ordinary people. Bankai and Domain Expansions are very similar and even the villains (Aizen and Kenjaku) in both series have unmistakable similarities.
Hell’s Paradise
Hell’s Paradise is the underrated one of the Dark Triad of modern shonen- which includes JJK and Chainsaw Man. Yuji Kaku’s Hell’s Paradise is similar to JJK in the sense that the combat revolves around martial arts and manipulating ki which is an internal energy similar or equivalent to Cursed Energy in JJK. Hell’s Paradise is the only one of the Dark Triad showing elements of daylight horror- the world is bright and beautiful but when you pay attention to its details, it becomes unnerving and creepy.
Chainsaw Man
Chainsaw Man is the first thing that comes to mind when you talk about anime series like Jujutsu Kaisen as they are both part of the Dark Triad of modern Shonen. Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man is set in a world darker, crazier and more twisted than JJK. And just like how the Curses and Cursed Energy in JJK draws from negative emotions, the Devils in Chainsaw Man are manifestations of mankind’s fears.
