Assassin’s Creed Shadows Gameplay Trailer was revealed in the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 on Sunday, June 9. The trailer showcased the stealth and parkour mechanics characteristic of the franchise in the background of a detailed image of feudal Japan. Interestingly, the trailer also revealed some new elements in the upcoming title.
Although the reveal trailer for Ubisoft’s next Assassin’s Creed game premiered in May, it lacked gameplay footage, featuring cinematic battle scenes and storyline. The latest trailer has given more information on what to expect from the stealth-based RPG.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Gameplay Trailer: Nunchakus, Character Differences, & More Revealed
The First Look Gameplay Trailer shared by Ubisoft began with pictures of the Japanese setting for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, cherry blossom trees blooming near Torii gates, and traditional medieval buildings decorated with lanterns. The aesthetic scenes quickly shifted to a war. Set in the Sengoku period, the game features Oda Nobunaga at the height of his power after destroying the Takeda clan.
After the introductory scenes, the focus shifted to the gameplay and the differences between Naoe and Yasuke’s combat style, the dual protagonists. Naoe could be seen using a grappling hook, katana, and shuriken. In the Reveal Trailer released in May, the female main character was seen using smoke bombs and bells to create distractions.
Naoe’s gameplay will be more stealth-focused. Interestingly, she could also use nunchaku to defeat her enemies as can be seen in the Assassin’s Creed Shadows Gameplay Trailer.
Naoe is agile. On the other hand, Yasuke’s movement shows he is a heavy character who operates from sheer physical power. Assassin’s Creed Shadows Gameplay Trailer featured the male protagonist ramming into a door. Yasuke was also seen hacking and slashing enemies to pieces with a heavysword, different from Naoe’s over-reliance on the hidden blade.
Yasuke seems to have also gotten an action that forces back the enemy. In the gameplay trailer, Yasuke stomped his foot to create a shockwave-like blast that compelled the enemies to keep their distance.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Gameplay Trailer has shown more layers in the different combat styles of the two main characters. Previously, it was confirmed that Yasuke would be able to use rifles while Naoe would have a few character-exclusive katanas. Each weapon will have its own skill tree and players can enhance their proficiency.
