Gekko is among the most versatile Initiators in Valorant. Along with gathering intel on enemy movement, the character can singlehandedly win rounds for the team by planting/defusing the spike with his unique ‘Wingman’ ability.
Introduced in March 2023 as part of Valorant Episode 6 Act 2, Gekko immediately took to the fancy of players. Its power to plant and defuse the Spike without being anywhere near it is not shared by any other character. This guide will tell you how to use the Wingman ability.
How To Use Gekko’s Wingman In Valorant?
Wingman is the ‘Q’ ability of Gekko. Upon activation, it sends a mini-robot on the ground which seeks enemies and unleashes a concussive blast. The mini-robot can also be used to defuse or plant the Spike by holding the ALT FIRE, unaffected by barrier walls, tripwires, and most grenades, while also choosing the safest route for planting the Spike.
Here is a list of steps players must follow to activate Gekko’s Wingman ability on PC:-
- Earn 300 credits by eliminating enemies or defusing/planting the Spike.
- Approach an enemy and press the ‘Q’ button on your keyboard to activate the Wingman ability.
- The Wingman will lunge towards the enemy and stun them for approximately 2.5 seconds. If the enemy isn’t anywhere nearby, it will track the closest enemy by running on the map.
Follow the steps below to plant the Spike with the help of Gekko’s Wingman:-
- Gekko must have the Spike in their inventory to plant it via the Wingman.
- After collecting 300 credits, Gekko must equip Wingman.
- Move towards the desired Spike planting area. Point the crosshair at the place they want the Spike to be planted and right-click to send the Wingman.
- The Wingman will automatically plant the Spike while your team takes strategic positions.
Defusing the Spike also works similarly. After purchasing the Wingman ability, point to the Spike with your crosshair and right-click. A major advantage of Gekko’s Q ability is that it continues to defuse the Spike even after the player’s death although it gets destroyed when each player in a team is eliminated.
Once players have used Wingman, they can gather its remnants (a dormant globule) to charge their next Wingman ability. Players get another charge in the next 10 seconds. Thus, the ability is best suited in long Deathmatches and Spike Rush. The only limitation of Wingman is that it has a low HP of 100 and can be destroyed with a few shots.
