One Piece is cooking right now- both in anime and in manga and the latest reveals and developments have left fans flabbergasted. The manga finally began the first words of Vegapunk’s message that is being broadcast worldwide upon his death and, spoilers ahead, it goes like ‘the world as we know it, will sink into the sea’. Vegapunk’s message in One Piece connects multiple dots throughout the storyline and fans wonder if it was all foreshadowing or simply a coincidence or a theory.

Vegapunk’s Message: Foreshadowing, Coincidence or Theory in One Piece
Immediately after the reveal, while some readers were still reeling from the shock, others went back in time to look for clues to connect the dots and see how far back it was foreshadowed. Oda or Goda, after all, is known as the God of Foreshadowing. Was Vegapunk’s message all predetermined and foreshadowed or is this another classic Oda winging it and connecting dots coincidentally? Let’s break down all the clues.
Crocus Lives Inside an Island Whale
Crocus was the doctor on Gol D. Roger’s crew and was one of the crewmembers who’s actually been to Laughtale. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Crocus also knew about this long before Vegapunk’s message broadcast. With that in mind, it makes sense that he built a home inside the island whale Laboon as a method to both heal Laboon and also protect himself when the world finally does sink.
Water 7’s Crisis
The Aqua Laguna might be a regular tsunami but that doesn’t explain how half of the Water 7 city became submerged underwater over time. Iceberg, the mayor of Water 7, noticed the gradually rising sea levels and declared that he was going to make the whole city float atop the water one day. As one of Tom’s esteemed shipwright students, this is a claim we have to take seriously. And it is not impossible since Thriller Bark- a ship the size of an island already exists.
The Old Wano Kingdom & Zou
Vegapunk’s message also finally helps us put together how the old Wano Kingdom sank under the sea and is now inaccessible as we saw at the end of the Wano Arc. Maybe that’s why Zou is atop such a tall elephant. It’s almost as tall as some Sky Islands and is cursed to walk for eternity.
Impel Down is Largely Underwater
The Marine’s prison fortress Impel Down is almost fully submerged underwater. It would’ve been impossible to construct an underwater fortress back in the day unless they used Fishman slaves or- it wasn’t originally underwater and the sea level only rose gradually to fully submerge it one day.
Silvers Rayleigh Coats Ships For a Living
Rayleigh, the Dark King, the right hand, and the first mate of Roger, is in the business of coating ships for underwater travel after the crew disbanded. He was there in Laughtale alongside Roger so it makes sense that his way of dealing with the looming catastrophe is to practice and equip ships for travelling underwater.
The Two Ancient Weapons We Know Are Immune to This Catastrophe
Both Pluton and Poseidon are immune to the rising sea levels. Poseidon is literally the Mermaid Princess Shirahoshi who wields the power to command Sea Kings. Pluton is a giant battleship Tom built that is capable of destroying entire islands.
Noah’s Ark in Fishman Island Now Has A Purpose
Just like in the Bible, there’s a giant Noah’s Ark in One Piece submerged in the seas near Fishman Island. It can only be pulled by the Sea Kings and is evidently capable of rescuing a lot of the population from this Great Flood. This plot point was almost waiting for Vegapunk’s message to make sense.
Shank’s Crew Has No Devil Fruit Users
At this point, we all know that Devil Fruit users are hated by the sea and thus can’t swim. While a lot about Shanks and his crew is still a mystery, considering he has connections to the Celestial Dragons, is probably a descendant of the old nobility that ruled over God Valley, and knew the truth about the Gum Gum Devil Fruit (or the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika), it would make perfect sense that he too would be aware of Vegapunk’s message prior to its reveal. It would make sense then why he has no Devil Fruit users on his crew because he needs everyone capable of swimming and thus surviving.
The Narrative Voice After Lulusia’s Destruction Makes Sense Now
The destruction of Lulusia off the map was accompanied by the narrator saying how a giant hole appeared in the sea and how the incident raised all of the world’s sea levels by 1 meter. Maybe Imu and or the use of the Mother Flame is the reason for this catastrophe.
The Red Line, Mary Geoise, and The Celestial Dragons
The Red Line is the largest and tallest piece of land in the world of One Piece. The Mary Geoise is the home of the Celestial Dragons, who rule over the world as they see fit. It makes sense then why it is located above the Red Line- as everything else will be sunk when the Flood comes.
That also explains why the Celestial Dragons are always wearing a bubble around their heads. While most say it is because they can’t breathe the air commoners breathe, maybe it’s because their ancestors once survived this Flood by wearing those headgear and thus it’s now a ceremonial piece of their attire. Maybe it also prepares them for the future when the world does sink.
Eiichiro Oda’s public author icon is also that of a man with the head of a fish- submerged underwater. Maybe Oda had this in mind all along. There are just too many plot points and details in the story to ignore that Vegapunk’s message was pre-planned and thus foreshadowed carefully throughout the story of One Piece.
