Chapter 264 of Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen manga ended with the moment that fans have been waiting for a long time. The sorcerers’ battle against Sukuna reached a new height as Yuji unlocked his Domain for the first time in the story. With Sukuna trapped within the new domain, readers are excited to see what kind of attack Itadori will unleash against the villain.
What Do We Know About Yuji’s Domain Expansion So Far?
The 264th chapter of the manga began with Angel’s Jacob’s Ladder hitting Sukuna, but it proved to not be as effective as everyone had hoped. Todo is able to save Hana Kurusu from Sukuna’s hit with his own body. Yuji then tries to use Dismantle to throw Sukuna off balance, but the latter starts to hit him with Black Flash. Sukuna realizes that all of Yuji’s Dismantle attacks hit the barrier between his and Megumi’s souls. He therefore decides that the best way to avoid it is to make sure it never lands on his body.
However, faced with such a dire situation, Yuji remembers what Gojo had told him when the latter was fighting Jogo inside his Unlimited Void Domain. His mentor had told him that even though Domains take up a lot of Cursed Energy, they also have some perks. One of these perks was the fact that the sorcerer would be free of environmental factors, like a buff in a game. But the most important benefit was that all attacks unleashed within a Domain would definitely hit the enemy who was trapped within it. Yuji Itadori is then able to unleash his Domain for the first time, thanks to his soul replacement training with Kusakabe, and traps Sukuna in it. Interestingly, in the Domain, Sukuna does not look like his Heian-era version or his current variation after taking over Megumi’s body. Instead, he looks like how he appeared when he had first taken over Yuji’s body at the beginning of the manga.
What Exactly Is Yuji’s Domain Expansion?
Unfortunately, the only thing that we know about Yuji’s Domain is that it looks like an empty subway station. This reminds fans of the anime’s season 1 opening, where Yuji was sitting on a train. As Sukuna sat on a bench in the station, Yuji came over to him and said, “Let’s go, Sukuna.” This might point towards the two of them boarding a train together. The station in the Domain is Kitakami-eki, which translates to “Heading North” in English. The place has a lot of ties to the Heian era, which Sukuna is originally from, so it makes sense why Gege Akutami chose this particular location for Yuji’s new power.
Sukuna is perplexed at the sudden awakening of Yuji’s Domain, meaning even the King of Curses could not guess that the boy had this move up his sleeve. As far as theories go, the most popular one seems to be that Yuji will use Dismantle on Sukuna’s soul to detach it from Megumi’s. Since they are inside a Domain, Yuji will never miss the hit and successfully land all his attacks on Sukuna.
However, it is clear that his Domain will be much more than just Dismantle and Cleave. Yuji had previously made a promise to his grandfather that he will always make sure everyone around him has a good death. It is also likely that he might take Sukuna on a journey through all stages of his life and force him to stand face-to-face with everything he has done. The fundamental difference between Sukuna’s greedy and power-centered worldview and Yuji’s will to make sure everyone dies in a good way will be highlighted inside this new location. It would also be interesting to see whether he is able to sever all ties of Sukuna’s soul with the living world.
In the end, whether or not Itadori is successful in making Sukuna succumb and save Megumi remains to be seen. But it is true that this is the last hope for all the sorcerers to stop the King of Curses once and for all. From the looks of it, Itadori’s Domain is extremely powerful and will engage his Cursed Technique in a way we have never seen before.
