Out of 18 teams, only 12 remain for Lima Major Playoffs
The Dota 2 Lima Major, featuring 18 teams, commenced on 22nd February with the Group Stage actions. The tournament organisers, 4D Esportz and Epulze hosted the event at Arena 1 in Lima, Peru marking it as the first-ever Dota 2 major in the South American region. All 18 teams were competing for a share of the prize pool of $500,000, starting with the Group Stage actions, teams got divided into two groups of 9 each. After competing for 5 days, the Group stage finally got over yesterday and paved the way for the top 12 teams as they made it to the Playoffs. Teams that made it to the Playoffs
For the playoffs a total of 12 teams are now going to play in the Playoffs of the Lima Major. Group A, Gaimin Gladiators, Team Spirit, Evil Geniuses, and Talon Esports secured the top spots and made it to the Upper Bracket. In Group B, Team Liquid, Entity, Shopify Rebellion and Team Aster reached the upper bracket. PSG.LGD, Tundra Esports from Group A and beastcoast, HellRaisers from Group B made it to the Lower bracket. These teams will be in action with the draws being already made.
Positions secured by the teams
The table topper from Group A was Gaimin Gladiators, they somehow managed to take the lead with a 4-3-1 record. Team Spirit finished 2nd with the same record as the toppers. Evil Geniuses and Talon Esports managed to secure 3rd and 4th positions. PSG.LGD, the Chinese powerhouse and TI11 winner Tundra Esports reached the 5th and 6th positions.
Team Liquid was brilliant from Group B and finished in the top spot with a record of 6-2-0. Entity finished in 2nd position with a record of 4-3-1. Shopify Rebellion and Team Aster remained in 3rd and 4th positions. beastcoast and HellRaisers fought till the end and registered their 5th and 6th place to qualify for the playoffs.
The matches that will be up and what to expect?
The playoffs begin tomorrow 28th of February, with the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals.
1. Gaimin Gladiators vs Team Aster will be a fight between the European side taking on the Chinese side. With a proper look and considering the current run in the group stage, we can assume Gaimin Gladiators to win the game.
2. Entity vs Evil Geniuses – Entity might threaten Evil Geniuses, considering their current run.
3. Team Spirit vs Shopify Rebellion – Both teams have a firm grip, but Team Spirit will be a good competitor. However, the lineup seems new from their 2021 TI10 winning roster.
4. Team Liquid vs Talon Esports – In this match, we can expect Team Liquid to have the upper hand as they had an excellent run in the Group Stage.
Conclusion
After these matches, the losing teams will get another chance as they will head for the Lower Bracket Round 1. HellRaisers, PSG.LGD, beastcoast and Tundra Esports are already waiting. The playoffs will begin tomorrow at 8:30 PM IST.
