*In Wind Breaker chapter 153, Sakura learns the truth about Umemiya’s past.
As fans already know, Satoru Nii’s delinquent manga Wind Breaker has been focusing on the all-out brawl between Bofurin leader Hajime Umemiya and Chika Takiishi for some time now. The latest chapter of the series gave us a peek into Chika’s psyche, which was somewhat troubling. It was more shocking to learn that the Umemiya we know and love might not be his actual self at all.
Wind Breaker Chapter 153 Focuses On Chika
The first few panels of the latest update show Chika walking through a dark place filled with discarded mannequins, clothes, and other junk. We soon learn that we’re looking at his mind and the mannequins are representative of how he perceives people. Some of the mannequins scream and cry out as they burn, but Chika pays no attention to them. This highlights how he sees other humans as mere objects and doesn’t mind breaking them beyond repair. However, he is surprised to see Umemiya, who stands straight and looks at him with anger while his body burns. This makes Chika giddy, as he is finally happy to find an opponent who can stand up to his overwhelming strength.
The chapter moves to a normal narrative, and we see the two opponents kicking and punching each other with all their might. Their battle is intense and bloody, which is sure to excite the readers. Sakura, on the other hand, is not happy to see this side of Umemiya. He asks Endo what he had meant by “back in the day” and whether Umemiya has always been such a fierce and unforgiving fighter. Endo answers that the Umemiya that stands in front of them now is the same one who came to Furin and changed it.
Umemiya’s Past Brought New Details To Light
Readers of the series, much like Sakura himself, have always known Umemiya as an easy-going and kind person, who is a strong but compassionate leader. However, Endo reveals that when he first came to Furin, Umemiya was hot-headed and rotten, much like the rest of the students. But unlike them, he came to the school with the goal of entirely changing it. Endo likens it to how high temperature can even bend something as unyielding as metal and make it something new. Umemiya created Bofurin and stubbornly kept fighting until the entire nature of their delinquent school changed and the students became the town’s protectors.
Sakura is surprised to learn the truth about Umemiya and remembers what his third-year seniors had said about them always getting into fights when they were freshmen. Endo says that someone like Umemiya can never be the “well-natured boss” Sakura thought he was. In the end, the fight with Chika brought forth a part of his life that he had buried once he accomplished his goal of making Furin High a better and safer place. However, Sakura does not like the Umemiya he sees in front of him as the man feels too distant. Readers will soon see who emerges victorious from this unrestrained battle of ideals between Chika and Umemiya.
