Wind Breaker Chapter 163 Recap
Titled ‘Seeds of Worry’ the issue begins with Sugishita remembering how cool and dependable Sakura looked during the war. He wakes up angry and throws his alarm clock at the wall. As he goes down to grab breakfast, we meet his grandfather and grandmother are really nice people. After having an eventful meal, Sugishita goes to school and runs into Suo and Nirei. He ignores them and Nirei comments that he has been looking a lot scarier recently. Suo says that it might be because he has a lot to think about.
Next, Sugishita enters the school roof, where the Four Heavenly Kings of Bofurin – Tsubakino, Hiragi, Momose, and Mizuki welcome him. Tsubakino asks if he has been using the haircare routine they suggested and offers him coffee and food. Soon, Umemiya joins them, which makes Sugishita really happy. The Bofurin leader suddenly asks him how things are going with Sakura, causing Sugishita to choke on his coffee. They point out how he stayed behind so that Sakura could get to school during the war, which is something he had never done before.
Albeit quite begrudgingly, Sugishita admits to thinking Sakura was cool when they were fighting against the Noroshi together. He doesn’t understand why he thought that since they have been rivals ever since their first meeting. Seeing how distressed he is about it, the seniors all try to comfort him. Umemiya, on the other hand, is pleased to see how far Sugishita has come and can actually admit his true feelings. The chapter ends with a flashback panel of Umemiya gardening on the roof and Sugishita standing beside him.

The next issue will delve into Sugishita’s past and how he came to become such a devout follower of Umemiya. The final panel showed both of them, which means it could be related to Sugishita’s parents as we don’t know if they are alive. Since Sugishita respects Umemiya so much, we can expect the Bofurin leader to have a talk with him about Sakura. This will probably clear a path for Sugishita and Sakura to become friends, even if they continue to bicker and fight occasionally. The other vice-captains of Bofurin will also offer him some words of wisdom before sending him back to his class.
