Highlights:
*JJK protagonist Yuji Itadori has one of the most bizarre family trees.
*Not only is he related to Noritoshi Kamo, Kenjaku, and Choso, but also Sukuna.
There is no lack of weird family trees in the world of anime. From the powerful Joestar family in JJBA to the cursed Ubuyashiki bloodline in Demon Slayer, fans have seen many weird ancestries. However, people were surprised to find how complicated the family history of Jujutsu Kaisen protagonist Yuji Itadori actually is and how Gege Akutami used it to seal the boy’s fate as Sukuna’s vessel.
Yuji’s Family Seemed Normal At First
When the Jujutsu Kaisen manga began, Yuji was shown to be a very physically gifted young boy, who was otherwise normal. Before swallowing Sukuna’s finger, he was not even able to see Cursed Spirits. However, fans got their first glimpse of Yuji’s supernatural origins when his mother Kaori was shown to have a stitch on her forehead, much like the one Suguru had later.
It was revealed that the villain Kenjaku had possessed Kaori’s body and given birth to Itadori. Moreover, during the Meiji Era, he possessed the body of a sorcerer named Noritoshi Kamo. Using this body, Kenjaku fathered nine Cursed Womb: Death Paintings with a woman. Fans are aware of three of these Cursed Wombs as they became Special Grade Curses known as Esu, Kechizu, and Choso. Due to the Kamo family’s Cursed Technique manifesting in him, Choso could also use Blood Manipulation, which he had used to fight against Itadori during the Shibuya Incident Arc. Later, when all of this is revealed, Choso starts to think of Yuji as his brother and decides to side with the protagonist against Kenjaku.
Yuji Is Even Related To Sukuna
When the secret behind Yuji’s mother’s true identity came to light, everyone wondered why Kenjaku had chosen Jin Itadori as the boy’s father. As the manga progressed, we learned that it was because Jin was the reincarnation of Sukuna’s twin who died in the womb. Apparently, Sukuna had a twin brother whom he ate inside the womb. However, the soul of that unborn twin was reincarnated as Jin. This is why Kenjaku had chosen the man to father Yuji, making the protagonist Sukuna’s nephew.
Fans were blown away to find how meticulously Kenjaaku had planned all of this. Being somewhat related to Sukuna and housing the King of Curses in his body for months gave Yuji the ability to use Cleave and Dismantle in battle. Not only that, he also ate the rest of the six Cursed Wombs, which also let him use the Blood Manipulation Cursed Technique to some degree. When all the secrets came out, fans finally understood why Yuji was such a powerful and imposing individual even when he did not have any contact with the Jujutsu world.
Unfortunately, all of Yuji’s family, save for Sukuna, are dead. Neither of them seems to care that they have a connection that runs deeper than blood. Now that Yuji has unleashed his Domain Expansion in the JJK manga, people wonder whether his technique would be related to any of his extended family members. Nevertheless, we can all agree that Yuji Itadori has one of the most surprising yet fitting family trees which helped secure his fate as Sukuna’s perfect antithesis.
